New IHG PointBreaks list goes live

IHG has released its first PointsBreak list for 2016

It's time again for a new IHG Rewards Club PointBreaks list for early 2016. The promotion offers rooms at select properties for only 5,000 points per night. These rates went live yesterday and have simple terms: you can book "two PointBreaks Reward Nights reservations per hotel during the special offer time period" with bookings valid through April 30, 2016. 

Generally, the PointBreaks locations are pretty average properties. Lots of Holiday Inn Expresses and Candlewood Suites. However, there are some nuggets like several U.S. and global Crowne Plazas. Of course, if any of these hotels are near where you will be traveling, PointBreaks are a very efficient use of IHG Reward Points.

Last year, I was able to book two separate reward stays at the Holiday Inn Greensboro Coliseum. While this was a fairly run-of-the-mill Holiday Inn and not an "aspirational" location, it was convenient for a couple of Georgia Tech football road weekends. Given the fact that I hold the IHG Rewards Club Select MasterCard from Chase, I get 10% of my redeemed IHG points rebated, resulting in an effective nightly rate of 4,500 points! If you are going to be traveling between now and the end of April and have flexibility in where you will stay, you should definitely check out the list. But hurry, as the best properties and dates book up quickly!
